An innovative project promoting dialogues between science researchers and artists, charting the evolution from raw data into works of art.

We invited practicing scientists to submit images from their work, which we displayed here. We then invited artists to make contact with scientists whose images they found inspiring or intriguing. Each dialogue resulted in a "triptych" made up of the raw science image, the artist's initial reaction and the final artwork arising from their dialogue.

32 scientists from institutes around the world submitted images from their current work. 11 British and North American artists took up the challenge to dialogue with one of the scientists. The resulting work was exhibited in Edinburgh 13th - 18th April 2006 as part of the OneEighty festival.
